Written in the wake of the Reagan era and on the cusp of the new millennium, José Rivera’s Marisol (1992) expresses both anxiety and hope. The play depicts the ambivalence of the moment in its representation of environmental degradation and economic insecurity as its characters look for stability in a deeply unstable and insecure moment.
