Milton Fischer 鈥�87, March 4, 2002, in a traffic accident near his home in Nehalem, Oregon. He was the owner and operator of River House and Pleasure Outfitters, offering guided river trips along the small rivers of Oregon鈥檚 north coast. He was known as one of the country鈥檚 best fly-fishing guides who used a unique slack-line fly-fishing method for catching steelhead that was originally developed for catching smaller fish. As a river guide, he was also a strong advocate for conservation and clean rivers, and he often included facts about fish and river biology during his tours. Residents of the area remember him as a good neighbor who made a difference in their lives. On April 18, 2002, Rep. Mike Thompson of California and Rep. Darlene Hooley of Oregon honored his memory in a statement read on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
