腦瞳憫's Wireless Network

Note: The campus network is being upgraded over a multi-year process. As our infrastructure team updates the network in each building, you’ll notice different wireless networks. “腦瞳憫1x” is being replaced with “腦瞳憫” in the upgraded buildings. Community members may need to connect to "腦瞳憫1x" or "腦瞳憫" and visitors will need to connect to "腦瞳憫Xenia" or "腦瞳憫 Guest" depending on their location on campus.

腦瞳憫1x/腦瞳憫 vs. 腦瞳憫Xenia/腦瞳憫 Guest

Those who want to use wireless at 腦瞳憫 will see two networks available--"腦瞳憫Xenia" (or "腦瞳憫 Guest" as the network gets upraded across campus) and 腦瞳憫1x (or "腦瞳憫").

  • 腦瞳憫Xenia/腦瞳憫 Guest is an open wireless network for campus visitors (Xenia is the ancient Greek concept of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home). 
  • 腦瞳憫1x/腦瞳憫 is a WPA2-encrypted network for use by community members

"腦瞳憫1x" or "腦瞳憫" can be used by all 腦瞳憫 community members including students, faculty, and staff. 腦瞳憫1x and 腦瞳憫 require your Kerberos username and password. MacOS is capable of connecting to 腦瞳憫1x and 腦瞳憫 with no additional setup; Windows, Linux, and mobile phone users may have some additional setup required to connect successfully.

How to Connect to Wireless:

腦瞳憫1x or 腦瞳憫

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni should connect to the "腦瞳憫1x" or "腦瞳憫" wireless network.

  1. Select 腦瞳憫1x (or 腦瞳憫) from your list of wireless networks.
  2. Your machine will prompt for your 腦瞳憫 name and password.
  3. Enter your Kerberos username and password. You may see a notice about the certification; you can "continue" past this.
  4. You should now be able to use the network.
腦瞳憫Xenia or 腦瞳憫 Guest

Campus visitors including parents, prospective students, and conference attendees can connect to the guest wireless network.

  1. Select 腦瞳憫Xenia (or 腦瞳憫 Guest) from your list of wireless networks.
  2. Open a web browser and you will automatically be directed to 腦瞳憫's network registration page.
  3. Members outside the 腦瞳憫 community should click "Register as Guest" and enter a name and e-mail address or phone number. You can then log in using your e-mail address as the username, and the numerical password e-mailed/texted to that address or phone number.
  4. 腦瞳憫 community members (students, faculty, staff, and alumni) can use their Kerberos credentials to log in. Although we recommend connecting to 腦瞳憫1x/腦瞳憫 instead of using the guest network.
  5. After registering, you may be warned by your browser that you're being redirected; this is normal as we redirect you to 腦瞳憫's homepage.

Wireless Coverage 

Wireless is available in all buildings on campus, as well as some outdoor areas near buildings. Wireless is not generally available in larger outdoor areas. IT actively monitors and adjusts placement of wireless access points to fine-tune coverage on campus. Due to channel interference among other complications, users are generally not allowed to operate a personal wireless network.
